Our Lady of the Rocks

Our Lady of the Rocks island, one of the most beautiful sceneries in Montenegro, is a man-made island that dates from the 15th century. The legend takes us back to the 22nd of July 1452. when the icon of the Holy Mother of God with the Son Jesus was found by the two local fishermen on the rock in the middle of the Bay. The fishermen took the icon and brought it to the local church, but the same night the icon went missing and the next morning it was once again found on the same rock in the bay. In the commemoration of this event, local fishermen used to throw rocks on the same place where the Lady had been found, thus enlarging the area and creating a beautiful artificial island on which the church Our Lady of the Rocks was built afterwards. The original icon itself is still to this date kept on the main altar in our Lady of the Rocks church so that every one of the million tourists every year visiting this island can see and admire it.

SUBARINE TUNNELS

In the Bay of Kotor, there are 3 military submarine tunnels that were built during the 20th century under the regulation of the former Yugoslavia. Not in usage from 2000, but open for visitors. This is a great way to catapult yourself to the past during your Kotor Bay tour and really review and clearly imagine how it all looked like during the time of former Yugoslavia. The tunnels were used for keeping the submarines safe from storms, hidden from the enemies and to recharge the batteries with electricity.

MAMULA ISLAND

The circular island, located at the very entrance of the Bay of Kotor, was a very important place during history because of its strategic position. Firstly, Austro-Hungarians built the fortress on the island which was used to defend the Bay and later, during the 1st and 2nd World Wars, this fortress was used as a prison.

BLUE CAVE

One of the most beautiful phenomena of the Montenegrin coast is located on the Lustica peninsula. A cave with two entrances lies underneath the 100 meters high cliff is breathtaking from the outside and the inside. The cave was named after a beautiful turquoise blue colour of the sea inside of the cave, due to the magical game of the crystal clear sea and the sunlight. The warm water invites all visitors to dive in and make unforgettable lifelong memories of the untouched Montenegrin nature.
